The Village
   The very famous village of Montfaucon, fought over for centuries because of it's strategic position from the early Normans to the first World War, offers the traveler a warm hearted welcome.

   Sit a while in General Pershing Square and savor the atmosphere of this famous French village liberated by the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) in 1918.  Visit the American Monument at the site of the old village and take in the spectacular 360 degree views of the Meuse and surrounding battlefields of 1914 -18.  This monument celebrates the famous victory of the AEF and French forces during the Meuse-Argonne offensive.

   The Meuse-Argonne region is a land frozen in time from the days of old when knights were bold; walk and cycle the endless forest trails and explore French history.  Visit the ancient town of Varennes where Louis the XVI was captured and taken to Paris; the rest is history.   This is truly an artist's paradise so if so inclined, stop and paint or draw the wonderful landscapes; inescapable from the eye.
   Marvel at the abundant wildlife; lynx, wild boar, deer and more.   The bird watching enthusiast will not be disappointed while spotting the variety of  falcons, storks, and buzzards.  Montfaucon translated is Mount Falcon.
   Fish the local rivers and try your luck at catching brown trout, bream, perch, carp, pike and others.  Arrangements for a fishing license can be made before your arrival so you won't miss a single bite.
